About NZCA

Established in 2018, The New Zealand Construction Alliance (NZCA) is a network of regional construction companies that deliver national projects locally.

Our “National Coverage, Local Delivery” model provides us with a strong offering to partner with national clients to help fulfil their construction, fit out, refurbishment or maintenance requirements throughout the country. This allows us to serve all clients while staying locally owned and operated.

While other organisations can travel to projects all over New Zealand, this is not an ideal for our people (who would need to spend significant time away from family), our clients (who’s projects suffer as a result), or our communities (who see a lot of the benefit from local investment disappear back to the major cities).

NZ Construction Alliance provides the perfect solution for this and ensures that any project helps achieve broader outcomes that are good for New Zealanders.

We are proud to offer the following benefits to our clients:

Within our 8 regional partner firms, we can leverage over 650 years of director experience in the construction industry, and share best practice & innovation to deliver superior results to you.

National Coverage, Local Delivery

National Coverage speaks to the established network we have built to deliver outstanding commercial construction projects of all sizes and complexity, that run across the length and breadth of New Zealand.

This network of regional commercial construction companies was hand-picked by NZ Construction Alliance founding partners after extensive research on which companies would be the best fit for the NZCA delivery model and fundamental principals. The strong leadership, values and track-record of these companies, alongside their commitment to working together to deliver high-quality projects on-time and on-budget, has resulted in a seamless national solution to commercial construction and maintenance.

Local Delivery speaks to how we work with the regional partners’ trusted and experienced local subcontractors and supply chains to deliver the project, provide backup and ongoing support.

Every partner in the alliance has an established, trusted and reliable regional based supply chain, giving us absolute confidence we can deliver to a high standard and in-turn significantly reduce project risk. Long after the project is completed, our local partner is there to support and guarantee their ongoing work without hesitation or delay. This results in a high level of service and commitment from our local supply chain allowing us to deliver the best possible experience to our clients.

How we started

NZ Construction Alliance was born out of an opportunity and a challenge. Leonard Gardner, CEO of Foster Construction in Hamilton, was approached with the opportunity to build a chain of commercial buildings across the New Zealand. Although the company has a strong local delivery team, the challenge was the companies’ capacity to deliver the project sustainably beyond the Waikato and at a national level.

Leonard saw this challenge as an opportunity and approached other like-minded, culturally aligned companies to deliver in their regions and utilise the existing relationships and connections the companies had with their local workforce, suppliers and trades. Maycroft Construction in Wellington and ABL Construction in Dunedin came together at this point and although this initial project didn’t go ahead, an alliance was formed between the three companies, and they gained a lot more than opportunity for more work.

They saw the benefit of working collaboratively, learning from each other and sharing knowledge, contacts, people, ideas, systems and processes. The company won their first national contract with the Ministry of Social Development in 2018 and have since brought on 5 more partners based across the regions of New Zealand, to deliver the project nationally as part of the network.
