Scott Construction: People Focussed

The company vision of our Upper South Island partner, Scott Construction, is that “Buildings that make all the difference - to the people that use them and their environment.” Director Justin Candish is clearly committed to living this vision through how he supports the people within the company, and the local community as well.

A recent example of this was the donation Scott’s made to support Buller Rugby’s breakfast club in Westport. Each Saturday before the rugby matches begin, the kids and their families are invited to share a substantial, hearty feed. This not only ensures that everyone has the energy they need to play, but also strengthens the local community by providing an opportunity for everyone to come together for a common purpose in a positive environment.

Other local initiatives they support include the local rescue helicoptor, victory boxing (youth group), cranking kids (mountain biking), heart kids and a local Special Olympics basketball team.

As a major employer of the local community, Scott Construction lead by example when it comes to social responsibility. They are committed to sourcing materials and subcontractors locally, which has a positive effect on the project’s sustainability outcomes. They have also been able to facilitate collaboration between local and out-of-town contractors to deliver larger packages of work, keeping the benefits within the region as much as possible. Ocean View Apartments in Nelson, and the Buller Health Centre in Westport are good examples of this, where programme requirements exceed local capacity.

NZ Construction Alliance is proud to partner with Scott Construction, who are a stand-out construction company in all areas, particularly when it comes to sustainability, their community and their people.
